Roofing Before & After in Los Angeles, CA
Talk is cheap in roofing. Photos aren’t. Below are real transformations from neighborhoods across Los Angeles: Silver Lake bungalows, Valley Ranch homes in Woodland Hills, hillside properties in Mount Washington where the roof pitch makes every step count. Each one shows the condition we found, what we did about it, and what it looks like now. These aren’t stock photos from a catalog. They’re the kind of work a Mercer crew badges in at the door to do, with a written price in your hand before the first nail goes down.

Valley Roof with Failed Flashing and Water Staining in Sherman Oaks
Before
AfterThe homeowner had ceiling stains in a guest bedroom every time it rained. We pulled the shingles at the valley, and the flashing underneath was rusted through in three places. The decking was surprisingly sound, so we replaced the flashing with a heavier gauge than code requires, re-laid the valley with an ice and water shield, and matched the surrounding GAF shingles. The stains haven’t come back, and the roof reads as one continuous surface again.
Complete Tear-Off and Re-Roof on a 1947 Bungalow in Atwater Village
Before
AfterThe old roof was original to the house: three layers of wood shake and composition shingles on top of each other. After a full tear-off, we discovered dry rot along the fascia on the south elevation. The homeowner approved the repair at the written price we’d scoped, no change order games. New decking went down where the rot had spread, then a synthetic underlayment and CertainTeed Landmark in Driftwood. The house looks like it got ten years younger from the street.
Flat Roof with Ponding Water and Split Seams in Echo Park
Before
AfterA hillside Echo Park home had a flat roof section that held water for days after each storm. The seams on the old rolled roofing had split where the water sat. We installed a TPO membrane with a slight slope correction, so water actually moves toward the drains instead of camping on the roof. The white surface also dropped the upstairs bedroom temperature noticeably during last summer’s heat wave.
Chimney Chase Leak Repair in Los Feliz

Water was tracking down the chimney chase and into the attic. The old aluminum step flashing had been nailed directly through the shingles, which violates basic flashing technique. We pulled the shingles around the chase, installed a proper step and counter-flashing system with a cricket on the high side, and re-laid the area with Owens Corning Duration shingles. On a steep roof like this one, we double-checked the ladder and anchor points before setting foot on the slope. Flashing done wrong is the source of most LA roof leaks, and flashing done right is invisible when it’s done.
Storm Damage Repair with Missing Shingles in Eagle Rock

The Santa Ana winds ripped a section of shingles off the north slope. The homeowner called at 7am, got a live person on the phone, and we had a written estimate to them before noon. Because the underlying decking was still sound, we didn’t have to replace the whole roof. We sourced the matching Atlas color, replaced the missing shingles, and re-sealed the perimeter. The repair is under written guarantee for a full year, and a second visit is included if anything fails. So far, it’s held through every wind event since.
Tile Roof Re-Bedding and Ridge Repair in Mount Washington

Tile roofs in Mount Washington take a beating from the heat and the wind. The mortar along the ridge had crumbled, and a few cap tiles had cracked open. We removed the loose bed, re-mortared the ridge with a mix rated for LA’s temperature swings, and replaced the broken tile with matched concrete pieces. Tile work is not a job for a general handyman, and I say that as someone who’s seen a loose cap tile slide off a roof and smash a car windshield below. We wear hard hats and set up a fall zone while the mortar cures. The homeowner gets a clean ridge line and no more water in the attic.
