IKO Shingle Repair: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in Los Angeles typically runs $425 – $875 for a standard repair of 8 – 15 damaged shingles, including matching materials and labor, and we can usually complete the job in a single visit. Most homeowners discover the problem after a windy night or the first real rain of the season: granules in the gutter, a shingle tab sitting in the yard, or a dark water stain creeping across the bedroom ceiling. IKO shingles are solid products, but Los Angeles sun does not negotiate, and after a decade or so, even well-installed shingles start to crack, curl, or lose their seal. We stock IKO-compatible shingles and can match most current IKO lines without waiting on a special order.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
IKO makes several shingle lines you will see on Los Angeles roofs: Cambridge (their most common architectural line), Dynasty (a heavier architectural shingle), Royal Estate (premium architectural), and Nordik (a wide-format architectural). The older Marathon and SuperEagle three-tab lines still turn up on homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s across the San Fernando Valley and South LA. The single most useful thing you can do before calling is check the pitch pocket or look for leftover bundles, which is often a translucent wrapper with a barcode and series name. We also check the underside of an existing shingle for the IKO plant code, which tells us the exact color and the sealant pattern so the repair blends instead of sticking out. One gotcha with IKO: color lots shift slightly between manufacturing runs, especially on the weathered-wood and driftwood shades, so we prefer to pull a sample from your roof and match against actual stock rather than relying on a color name alone. IKO’s high-profile architectural shingles also matter in Los Angeles because of our hot summers: the HDF (High Definition Profile) construction on those lines adds depth and thickness, but that extra thickness makes them a bit stiffer, which changes how we handle repairs in cold weather. Aftermarket generics are easier to find, but they rarely match IKO’s exact shade or profile cleanly. For the extra cost of an OEM IKO bundle, the repair disappears.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
You do not need a ladder to spot most of these. Walk the property, look up, and trust what the shingles tell you.
- Granules collecting in gutters or at downspout elbows. This is not normal shedding, it is the ceramic coating that protects the asphalt from UV breakdown. Los Angeles sun is brutal on south-facing and west-facing slopes, and granule loss there is the first stage of shingle death. Once the asphalt is exposed, the shingle bakes and cracks like old leather.
- Shingle tabs flapping in the wind or missing entirely. IKO shingles seal with a thermal sealant strip that loses tack with age. When the seal fails, the tab lifts. Santa Ana winds find these loose tabs and peel them back like a bad sticker.
- Curling or cupping at the tab edges. This is the shingle’s last gasp. Moisture leaves the asphalt faster than it can be replenished, and the shingle warps. Once a section is curling, it is not just ugly, it is channelling water sideways instead of down, which is how a small repair becomes decking replacement.
- Dark stains or soft spots on the ceiling below. By the time you see this, the leak has already been working for a while. The roof may still look fine from the yard. IKO shingles can fail at the nail line from wind fatigue or improper fastening, and that leak never announces itself loudly.
- Cracked shingles, especially at the nail strip or the center of the tab. IKO shingles, like all asphalt shingles, use a fiberglass mat core. Over time and heat cycles, the mat can become brittle. Cracks at the nail strip are bad because that is exactly where water runs when the shingle above it sheds.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here is what a Los Angeles homeowner can expect to pay for IKO shingle repair in our current market:
Minor repair (1 – 4 shingles): $225 – $425
Standard repair (8 – 15 shingles, one slope): $425 – $875
Larger repair (ridge caps, vent flashing, or 20+ shingles): $875 – $1,500
The bigger spread at the higher end is driven by access (steep pitch, two-story homes, tile accents around the repair), whether we need to replace underlayment or decking below the shingles, and whether the repair is on a flat section that requires extra sealing. We write a line-item quote before any work starts and it includes the shingles, sealant, fasteners, felt or synthetic underlayment on an as-needed basis, and labor. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which is a written guarantee that if the repair fails within a year, we return and make it right at no additional cost. We do not charge for the second visit either.
DIY or Call Us?
I am a big believer in homeowners understanding their own roofs. That said, asphalt shingle repair is not a ladder-and-caulk job, and it is not worth a fall. You can safely check gutters for granules, take photos from the ground, and look for missing tabs after a big wind event. What you should not do is climb onto a sloped roof without a fall harness, pry up sealed shingles without the right bar, or attempt a repair with roofing cement from a big-box store. Those patches look fine for a season and then fail, typically right where the old leak was, because the water has already found a path under the shingle field. IKO shingles also have a specific nail pattern and sealing behavior, and a misplaced nail can create a new leak that was not there before. If your repair is on a roof with more than a 6/12 pitch, skip the ladder entirely. That is a job for someone with fall protection and the right insurance. FAQs
IKO architectural shingles realistically last 18 – 25 years in Los Angeles, with the south and west exposures losing years to UV and heat. The same shingle on a shaded north slope can push 30. After year 15, an annual visual check is worth the time. Call us at (213) 521-8272 if you want a second set of eyes on it.
Yes, a targeted IKO repair is absolutely possible in most cases, as long as the surrounding shingles are still flexible and the leak has not damaged the decking below. We match the shingle and the color lot and we only recommend full replacement when the repair would cost more per year than a new roof. Get a written quote for both options before you decide.
Most single-slope IKO repairs take between two and five hours, including setup, sealant inspection, repair, and cleanup. Larger repairs or those that require decking replacement may take a full day. We will tell you the expected time range when we provide your written price.
Our Los Angeles trucks carry common IKO Cambridge and Dynasty colors, plus a range of generic three-tab and architectural alternatives for older lines. If we cannot match your IKO shingle from stock, we can usually source the exact bundle from our supplier within one to two business days.
